Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Nigeria eVisa
Apply for your Nigeria eVisa at the official Nigeria Immigration Service portal before travel. The eVisa is a single-entry permit, and you must upload a passport photo, passport data page, and proof of yellow fever vaccination. Processing takes 3–5 business days, and the fee is around $160 USD.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your Slovak passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Nigeria. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers in Lagos and Abuja enforce it strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Nigeria
Immigration officers at Lagos and Abuja airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready to show.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Nigeria. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement or enough cash (around $500 USD equivalent) to cover your stay. Immigration officers rarely check this, but it helps if questioned.Recommended
Yellow fever certificate is mandatory
You must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter Nigeria. Without it, you may be denied boarding or quarantined on arrival. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.
Apply early — no rush processing
The Nigeria eVisa system doesn't offer an express option. Apply at least 2 weeks before departure to avoid last-minute stress.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the Nigeria Immigration Service portal (portal.immigration.gov.ng), create an account, fill in the application, upload your passport scan and photo, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive eVisa approval letter
Once approved, you'll get an eVisa approval letter by email. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. This is your entry permit.
3
Arrive at Nigerian airport
At Lagos (LOS) or Abuja (ABV) airport, proceed to the immigration desk. Hand over your passport, eVisa letter, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. No separate visa-on-arrival queue — you're pre-approved.
