Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before departure
You need an eVisa to enter Gabon. Apply at the official Gabon eVisa portal at evisa.gouv.ga. Processing takes 3–5 business days — do not book non-refundable flights until you have the approval email.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Gabon. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Libreville International Airport routinely ask for a printed or digital return or onward ticket. Have a copy ready — if you cannot show one, they may deny entry or require you to buy a ticket at the airport.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Gabon. Officers sometimes ask for this at the border, especially if you are arriving without a pre-booked tour.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card ready to demonstrate you have enough money for your stay. There is no official minimum, but showing at least 200,000 CFA francs (~$330) per week is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
Gabon requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers. Carry your yellow card with your passport — immigration checks it.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa PDF, passport photo, and return ticket in your phone's files or cloud storage. If you lose the printout, you can show the digital copy.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to evisa.gouv.ga, fill in the form, upload your passport scan and a passport photo. Pay the fee (around 70,000 XAF, roughly €110). Processing takes 3–7 business days. You'll receive the visa as a PDF by email. Print it and keep a copy on your phone.
2
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, gather: passport (valid 6+ months), printed eVisa, return ticket, first night accommodation booking, and travel insurance if you have it. Put them in a folder you can grab quickly.
3
Arrive at Libreville International Airport (LBV)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket ready. The officer will check your visa, stamp your passport, and wave you through. Expect 15–30 minutes in line.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. Usually no customs check for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.
