Senegalese passport holders need a visa to enter the United Kingdom. You must apply for a Standard Visitor visa before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival or eVisa option for Senegalese nationals. Plan ahead, as the application process involves an online form, an appointment at a visa application centre, and a decision that can take several weeks.

What happens at the border

1
Complete the online application
Go to the UK Visas and Immigration website (gov.uk) and fill out the Standard Visitor visa form. You'll need to create an account, answer questions about your trip, and pay the £115 fee online. Save your application reference number.
2
Book and attend your biometric appointment
After submitting the form, book an appointment at the UK Visa Application Centre in Dakar (located at Rue Amadou Assane Ndoye, near the city centre). Bring your passport, appointment confirmation, and any documents requested. At the appointment, you'll give fingerprints and a photo.
3
Submit your supporting documents
Upload your supporting documents to the online portal before your appointment, or bring paper copies to the centre. The staff will scan and return them to you. Keep copies for your records.
4
Wait for the visa decision
Processing typically takes 3–6 weeks, but can be longer during peak seasons. You can track your application online using your reference number. If approved, your passport will be returned with the vignette.
5
Travel to the UK
When you arrive at a UK airport (e.g., Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester), go to the 'Non-EU' queue at Border Control. Have your passport with the vignette ready, and be prepared to answer questions about your visit. Your vignette will be checked, and you'll be stamped in.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing takes about 3 to 6 weeks from your biometric appointment. In busy periods (summer, Christmas), it can take longer. There is no priority service available in Senegal, so plan well ahead of your travel date.
No. You must attend an in-person appointment at the UK Visa Application Centre in Dakar to provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo). The online form is just the first step.
The fee for a 6-month Standard Visitor visa is £115 (approximately 90,000 FCFA, depending on the exchange rate). This fee is non-refundable, even if your visa is refused.
Yes. Senegalese citizens are not visa-exempt for the UK, regardless of residence permits in other countries. You must apply for a UK visa before travelling, unless you hold a British passport or a UK-issued visa that is still valid.
No. The Standard Visitor visa is not extendable. You must leave the UK before your visa expires. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a different visa type from Senegal, not from within the UK.
You will receive a refusal letter explaining the reasons. You can reapply, but you'll need to address the reasons for refusal and pay the fee again. There is no fast-track appeal for visitor visas, so it's better to submit a strong application the first time.
Yes. You should provide a confirmed accommodation booking (hotel or invitation letter from a UK resident) and a return flight itinerary. These are part of the supporting documents that show you have a genuine visit planned and intend to leave.
