Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply at the official Vietnam eVisa portal at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn. The fee is $25 USD, and processing takes 3 working days. You get a single or multiple entry visa valid for up to 90 days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers enforce it strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or a credit card statement showing available funds. Immigration officers rarely ask, but it helps if you're staying for more than a few days.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Vietnam, not from your departure date. If it's close to expiry, renew before applying.
eVisa is not extendable
You cannot extend your eVisa while in Vietnam. If you need more time, you'll have to exit and re-enter with a new visa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnam eVisa website (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $25 USD for single entry, $50 for multiple entry). Processing takes 3–5 working days.
2
Receive and print eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get a PDF via email. Print it out — you'll need to show it at check-in and upon arrival in Vietnam.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Pack your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and hotel booking confirmation. Keep them in your carry-on, not checked luggage.
4
Arrive at a Vietnamese airport
At the airport, go to the immigration counter. Hand over your passport and printed eVisa. The officer will stamp you in. No separate visa-on-arrival queue needed.
