Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Zambia eVisa at the official eVisa portal. Processing takes 3–5 business days, so submit at least a week before departure. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Kenneth Kaunda and Harry Mwanga Nkumbula airports will ask for it.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your intended departure date from Zambia. Airlines at Blaise Diagne International check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Lusaka and Livingstone airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they may deny entry if you cannot show onward travel within your visa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Zambia. Officers at the border sometimes ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Have at least $500 USD equivalent in cash, a debit card, or a credit card statement. Immigration may ask how you plan to fund your stay — showing a bank balance or cash removes any doubt.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
Senegalese passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Zambia. You must apply for and receive an eVisa before you travel. Airlines will check this at check-in.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Zambia, not from your departure date. Double-check before you apply.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Zambia eVisa website (evisa.zambiaimmigration.gov.zm). Fill in your personal details, passport info, travel dates, and upload a passport-style photo and your passport bio page. Pay the fee online with a credit or debit card. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get an email with your eVisa approval letter. Print a copy and also save a PDF on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Zambia.
3
Arrive at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (Lusaka) or other entry points
At immigration, present your passport, eVisa approval, return ticket, and accommodation proof. The officer will stamp you in. The process is straightforward — expect 5–10 minutes at the counter.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. There's usually no baggage check unless you're carrying restricted items.
