Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your entry date into Ecuador. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ecuador
Immigration officers at Quito and Guayaquil routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone showing a flight out of Ecuador within 90 days.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from your host ready. A simple printout or email on your phone works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $200–$300 USD per month of your stay. Immigration rarely asks, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Overstaying is expensive
If you overstay your 90-day visa-free period, you'll be fined $1 per day overstayed, and you may be banned from re-entering Ecuador for up to 5 years. Set a reminder to leave on time.
Keep your return ticket handy
Immigration officers at Quito and Guayaquil airports routinely ask to see your return or onward ticket. Have a screenshot on your phone or a printed copy. If you don't have one, you may be denied entry.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Quito or Guayaquil airport
Most international flights land at Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) in Quito or José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) in Guayaquil. Follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration).
2
Queue at immigration counter
Join the line for 'Extranjeros' (Foreigners). Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport and may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the maximum stay (90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter. If the date is wrong, ask for correction immediately.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually no customs declaration for personal items. Walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare.
