Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Iraqi eVisa at the official portal before departure. Processing takes 3–5 business days, so submit at least a week ahead. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Baghdad and Erbil airports will ask to see it.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Thai passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Iraq. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Iraq
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed itinerary or digital booking ready — they may deny entry if you cannot show you are leaving within the eVisa validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your Iraqi host. Immigration at Baghdad International Airport sometimes asks for this during secondary screening.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or cash equivalent to at least $500 USD for a short stay. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to show you are not traveling without means.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no exceptions
Thai passport holders cannot enter Iraq without an approved eVisa. There are no visas on arrival, and border officials will not make exceptions. Apply well in advance.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa approval, passport page, return ticket, and hotel booking as PDFs on your phone and in cloud storage. If your phone dies or gets lost, you'll still have access.

What happens at the border

Once approved, you'll get a PDF or email confirmation. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
