Thai passport holders need a visa to enter Liechtenstein. Since Liechtenstein is part of the Schengen Area, you'll need a Schengen visa from a Swiss or Austrian embassy — there's no Liechtenstein-specific visa. Plan ahead: visa processing takes at least 15 working days, and you must apply in person at the embassy covering your region.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Schengen visa application
Apply before travel
Liechtenstein is part of the Schengen Area. You need a Schengen visa from the embassy of the country where you will spend the most time. Apply at the Liechtenstein embassy or the embassy of the Schengen country handling your trip. Processing takes at least 15 calendar days — start early.Apply for Schengen visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in the Schengen Area. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Schengen rules, but some airlines enforce 3 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit from Schengen
Immigration officers at the Schengen border regularly ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen Area within your visa's validity. Have a printed or digital copy ready. Budget airlines at Zurich and Basel often check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a confirmed hotel reservation or a signed invitation letter from your host in Liechtenstein. Immigration may ask for this at the border, especially if you arrive by train from Switzerland.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card showing you can cover your stay. Schengen rules expect around €65–€100 per day. A recent statement with a few thousand euros is usually enough.Recommended
Apply early — processing takes 15 days minimum
Schengen visa processing officially takes 15 calendar days, but can stretch to 45 days during peak season (April–September). Book your appointment at least 3–4 weeks before your planned departure. No walk-ins — you must have an appointment.
No visa on arrival for Thai passport holders
Liechtenstein does not offer visa on arrival or e-visa for Thai nationals. You must obtain a Schengen visa before traveling. There is no way to get one at the border.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a Schengen visa at the Swiss embassy
Book an appointment at the Swiss Embassy in Bangkok (or the Austrian Embassy if your main destination is Austria). Submit your application, passport, photos, travel insurance, flight and hotel bookings, and bank statements. Pay the €80 visa fee (cash or card). Processing takes 15 calendar days — apply at least 3 weeks before travel.
2
Fly into a Schengen airport
You'll enter the Schengen Area at your first point of entry — likely Zurich Airport (Switzerland) or Munich Airport (Germany). At passport control, present your passport with the visa sticker. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date and allowed stay.
3
Travel to Liechtenstein
From Zurich, take a train to Sargans (about 1 hour), then a bus to Vaduz (20 minutes). There are no border checks between Switzerland and Liechtenstein — you're already in the Schengen Area. Keep your passport and visa handy in case of random checks.

Yes. There are no border controls between Switzerland and Liechtenstein. You'll clear Schengen immigration at your first airport of entry (e.g., Zurich). From there, travel freely to Liechtenstein by train and bus.
You can appeal within 30 days of receiving the rejection letter. The appeal goes to the Swiss embassy. Common reasons: weak travel history, insufficient funds, or incomplete documents. Reapply with stronger evidence — a detailed itinerary, more bank statements, or a sponsor letter.
You need proof of onward travel out of the Schengen Area. A flight to a non-Schengen country works. A bus or train ticket to a non-Schengen destination also counts. Keep a copy on your phone.
