Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before departure
Apply for a Chad eVisa at e-visa.td before you fly. Processing takes 2–3 business days — do not wait until the last minute. Print the approval email and carry it with your passport to the border.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Chad. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Chad
Immigration officers at N'Djamena International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version ready on your phone.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Chad. Border officers may ask where you are staying — having a booking confirmation avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or a credit card showing access to at least 500 USD equivalent. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, you need to demonstrate you are not travelling without means.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) upon arrival. Without it, you may be quarantined or denied entry. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before your flight.
Cash is king in Chad
ATMs are rare and unreliable outside N'Djamena. Bring enough CFA francs (XAF) in cash for your stay. Euros and US dollars can be exchanged at banks and hotels, but smaller towns may not accept them.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to the official Chadian e-visa portal (e-visa.td). Fill in your personal details, passport info, travel dates, and upload a passport-style photo. Pay the visa fee (around $100–$150 depending on nationality and processing time). Submit and wait for approval — typically 3–7 business days.
2
Print or save your visa approval
Once approved, you'll receive an email with a PDF or approval code. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show this at the airport in Tunisia and again on arrival in Chad.
3
Prepare your documents for departure
Before heading to Tunis-Carthage Airport (or wherever you're flying from), gather: your passport (valid 6+ months), printed e-visa, return/onward ticket, and first night hotel booking. Keep them in your carry-on.
4
Arrive at N'Djamena International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. Hand over your passport and e-visa approval. The officer will check your documents, may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking, then stamp your passport. This usually takes 10–20 minutes.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually no customs declaration for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.
