Must cover entire stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Colombia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required

Recommended
Immigration officers at Bogotá and Medellín airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Hotel bookings or a letter of invitation from a host can speed up the immigration interview. Officers may ask where you are staying on arrival.Recommended

Check-Mig is mandatory — do not skip it
Airlines check your Check-Mig QR code before boarding. Without it, you cannot fly. It is free and takes 5 minutes at migracioncolombia.gov.co. Complete it within 1 to 72 hours of departure.
Overstaying costs money and can block future entries
The fine is approximately $2 USD per day, capped at around $200 USD. Overstaying also goes on your record and can make future entries harder. If you need more time, apply for a visa before travel.
No visa needed — but be prepared
Turkish passport holders get 90 days visa-free. Just bring your passport, Check-Mig QR code, return ticket, and first night accommodation. Immigration is straightforward if you have these ready.

What happens at the border

1
Complete Check-Mig online
Go to migracioncolombia.gov.co and fill in the free Check-Mig form. Do this between 1 and 72 hours before your flight. You will receive a QR code; save it to your phone or print it. Airlines check this before boarding.
2
Arrive at Colombian immigration
At Bogotá (BOG), Medellín (MDE), or Cartagena (CTG), follow signs to 'Migración' or 'Extranjeros'. Queues can be 20–60 minutes. Have your passport, Check-Mig QR code, and return ticket ready.
3
Immigration interview
The officer will ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, accommodation details, and return date. Answer clearly. They rarely ask for proof of funds, but have a bank statement or credit card ready just in case.
4
Receive entry stamp
You will receive a stamp in your passport with the number of days allowed (usually 90). Check it before walking away. If it is less than 90, ask politely — it may be a mistake.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free stay is not extendable. To stay longer, apply for a visa before travel (e.g., a tourist visa at a Colombian consulate) or leave and re-enter. Overstaying costs approximately $2 USD per day, capped at around $200 USD.
You will be fined roughly $2 USD per day (about 8,000 COP) upon departure, with a maximum fine of approximately $200 USD (800,000 COP). Pay at immigration before leaving. Overstaying can also affect future entries.
Only if you are arriving from a country with yellow fever risk (e.g., Brazil, Peru). Otherwise, it is recommended but not required. The vaccine is available at some airports for free if transiting from a risk area.
Technically, no — the visa-free entry is for tourism only. However, many digital nomads work remotely without issues. For a proper setup, apply for the Digital Nomad Visa (Visa de Nómada Digital), which costs approximately $200 USD and allows a 1-year stay.
Check-Mig is Colombia's mandatory online pre-registration form. Fill it in at migracioncolombia.gov.co between 1 and 72 hours before your flight. It is free and takes 5 minutes. You will receive a QR code; save it. Airlines check it before boarding.
Yes, you can enter and exit multiple times within the 90-day period, but each entry resets the 90-day clock only if you leave and re-enter. However, frequent back-to-back visits may raise suspicion of overstaying or working illegally.
Have your passport (valid for entire stay), Check-Mig QR code (printed or on phone), return ticket (screenshot is fine), and first night hotel booking. A credit card or bank statement for proof of funds is also smart. That is all you need.
