Turkish passport holders need a visa to enter the Czech Republic. Starting in 2026, you must apply for a Schengen visa at the Czech embassy or consulate before you travel. Processing can take several weeks, so plan ahead.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Long-stay visa application
Apply at Czech embassy or consulate
You need a long-stay visa (vízum k pobytu nad 90 dnů) for stays exceeding 90 days. Apply at the Czech embassy or consulate in Turkey. Processing takes 30–60 days. Submit your application in person — no online submission available.Visa infoRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in the Czech Republic. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Czech law, but airlines may enforce 3–6 months. Carry a copy of your passport bio page separately.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Prague Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within your visa validity. Have a printed or digital copy ready. Budget airlines check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or rental contract
Carry a confirmed hotel booking, rental agreement, or an invitation letter from your host. Czech authorities may ask for this during visa processing or at border control. A simple booking confirmation email works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statements or cash
Show you have at least 1,100 CZK (approx. 45 EUR) per day of your stay. Bank statements from the last 3 months or a sponsor letter with proof of their funds are accepted. Keep a few thousand CZK in cash for incidentals.Recommended
Apply early — slots fill fast
Embassy appointment slots in Turkey often book up weeks in advance. Start the process at least 2 months before your intended travel date to avoid last-minute stress.
Schengen visa covers multiple countries
A Czech-issued Schengen visa lets you travel to all 27 Schengen countries (e.g., Germany, France, Italy) for up to 90 days. Your first entry must be into the Czech Republic or the country that issued the visa.

What happens at the border

1
Determine where to apply
You apply at the Czech embassy or consulate in Turkey. If you're applying from a third country, check if the Czech Republic has a consulate there. In Turkey, the embassy is in Ankara; there are consulates in Istanbul and Izmir.
2
Book an appointment
Schedule an appointment online through the embassy's visa portal. Slots fill up fast — book as early as possible. You'll need to appear in person to submit biometrics (fingerprints and photo).
3
Prepare your documents
Gather your passport, application form, photos, flight itinerary, hotel bookings, travel insurance, bank statements, and any other supporting documents. Make copies of everything.
4
Attend the appointment
Arrive on time at the embassy or consulate. Submit your documents, pay the visa fee (€80 for adults, €40 for children 6–12, free for under 6), and give biometrics. You'll get a receipt with a tracking number.
5
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days, but can extend to 45 days if more checks are needed. Track your application online using the receipt number. Don't book non-refundable flights until you have the visa.
6
Collect your passport
Once approved, you'll be notified to pick up your passport. It will have the visa sticker inside. Check the dates and personal details are correct before leaving the embassy.
7
Enter the Czech Republic
At the border (airport or land crossing), present your passport with the visa. The officer may ask about your trip — have your return ticket and hotel address ready. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date.

Frequently asked questions

A standard Schengen visa allows a maximum stay of 90 days within any 180-day period. The exact duration is printed on the visa sticker. You cannot stay longer than that without a separate long-stay visa.
You fill out the application form online, but you must submit it in person at the embassy or consulate. There is no fully online visa for Turkish passport holders.
The Schengen visa fee is €80 for adults, €40 for children aged 6–12, and free for children under 6. This is non-refundable even if your application is rejected.
Standard processing is 15 calendar days from the date of application. It can take up to 45 days if additional documents or checks are needed. Apply at least 4–6 weeks before your planned travel.
If you're transiting through a Czech airport to a non-Schengen destination and you don't leave the transit area, you generally do not need a visa. But if you need to enter the Schengen area (e.g., to switch airports), you need a Schengen visa.
Extensions are only granted in exceptional circumstances, such as force majeure or humanitarian reasons. You cannot extend simply because you want to stay longer. Apply at the local immigration office before your visa expires.
You'll receive a formal rejection letter explaining the reason. You can appeal the decision within 15 days to the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Alternatively, you can reapply with stronger documentation.
