Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply online at the official Iraq eVisa portal. Processing takes a few business days — do not book non-refundable flights until approved. Print the eVisa approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your intended departure date from Iraq. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone. A bus or flight booking to a neighboring country works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Iraq. Immigration may ask where you are staying — having a clear address speeds things up.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $500 USD. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to show you are not traveling without means.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no exceptions
Turkish passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival. You must apply and receive approval before you travel. Without it, you'll be denied boarding.
Keep digital and printed copies
Save your eVisa PDF on your phone and print a paper copy. Also keep screenshots of your return ticket and hotel booking. Immigration may ask to see any of these.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to www.evisa.iq, fill in your details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (typically $50–$80 USD depending on nationality). Processing takes 1–3 business days. You'll receive the visa by email as a PDF.
2
Print your eVisa and pack your documents
Print a paper copy of the eVisa approval email. Also print or save offline: your return ticket, hotel booking, and passport copy. Keep them together in a folder.
3
Arrive at Baghdad International Airport (BGW) or other entry point
At immigration, present your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp your passport. The process is straightforward — expect 5–10 minutes per person. Have your hotel address ready if asked.
