Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Turkish passport needs to be valid only for the period you plan to stay in Panama. Airlines sometimes enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Panama
Immigration officers at Tocumen International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Panama doesn't publish a fixed minimum, but carrying a credit card and a bank statement showing a few hundred dollars is enough to satisfy most officers.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity before boarding. If it's less than 6 months from your entry date, you will be denied boarding — no exceptions. Renew early.
Keep a copy of your return ticket
Panamanian immigration officers frequently ask to see a return or onward ticket. A screenshot on your phone is acceptable, but having a printed copy is even safer.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Tocumen International Airport (PTY)
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). There are separate queues for Panamanian citizens and foreigners. Join the 'Extranjeros' line. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present documents to immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They may also ask to see your return ticket. You'll receive an entry stamp valid for up to 90 days.
3
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, go to baggage claim. Then proceed to customs. There's a red/green channel system. If you have nothing to declare, go through the green channel. Random checks happen.
