When you enter Russia, you'll receive a small immigration card. Don't lose it — you'll need to hand it back when you leave. Hotels may also ask to see it.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Russian eVisa portal (evisa.kdmid.ru). Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel dates. Upload a recent passport-style photo. Pay the fee (around $50 USD, varies by nationality). Processing takes up to 4 calendar days. You'll receive the eVisa by email.
2
Prepare your documents
Print a copy of your eVisa approval email. Also print or save on your phone: your return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance certificate. Make sure your passport has at least one blank page.
3
Arrive at the airport in Russia
At immigration, present your passport and printed eVisa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. Answer questions clearly. You'll be stamped in for up to 16 days. Keep the immigration card they give you — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Register your stay (if staying in a hotel)
Hotels in Russia are required to register foreign guests within 7 days of arrival. If you're staying in a private home, you need to register yourself at the local migration office. Your host can help with this.
