Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at Kigali International Airport. Pay $30 USD in cash (USD only, no change given) for a single-entry visa valid for 30 days. Have a passport photo ready — the immigration officer will take your photo at the counter.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Rwanda. Rwanda enforces this strictly — airlines check it at check-in. No blank page requirement, but have at least one free page for the visa sticker.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Kigali ask for a return or onward ticket before they issue the visa on arrival. Airlines also check this at check-in. A printed or digital copy works — show it at the visa counter.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host letter
Have a hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Rwanda. Immigration may ask for it at the visa counter — a printed copy is safer than a phone screen.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial means
Carry at least $200 USD in cash or have a credit card with available balance. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, they want to see you can cover your stay. ATMs are available at the airport.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash (USD or RWF). Cards are not accepted. Bring crisp, undamaged USD bills — older notes or torn ones may be refused.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Rwanda, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, you'll be denied entry.

What happens at the border

3
Proceed to passport control

Frequently asked questions

The standard single-entry visa on arrival for Turkish passport holders costs $30 USD (or equivalent in Rwandan francs). For a 30-day stay. Longer stays or multiple entries cost more — check with the immigration officer. Pay in cash only.
No, the visa on arrival is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a different visa type before your current one expires. Visit the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration in Kigali for options.
Yes, if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever risk, you must show a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Turkey is not a risk country, but if you've traveled to one recently, you'll need the certificate. Otherwise, it's not required for direct entry from Turkey.
Visa on arrival is also available at major land borders like Gatuna (from Uganda) and Rusumo (from Tanzania). The process is the same — cash payment, passport validity check, and onward ticket. But smaller crossings may not offer it, so stick to official border posts.
No. Only cash is accepted at the visa counter. Bring USD (bills printed after 2009, no tears or marks) or Rwandan francs. There are ATMs in the arrivals hall, but they may not dispense small bills.
Usually 10–20 minutes at Kigali airport, depending on how many flights arrive at the same time. The queue moves quickly. Have your documents ready to speed things up.
Yes, you need proof of onward travel out of Rwanda. A bus ticket to Uganda or Tanzania, or a flight to another country, works. Immigration just wants to see you're not staying indefinitely.
