What happens at the border

1
Determine visa type and gather documents
Decide if you need a short-stay Schengen visa (up to 90 days) or a national visa (for work, study, etc.). Collect all required documents: passport, photos, travel insurance, flight and hotel bookings, bank statements, and a completed application form.
2
Book an appointment at the visa center
Slovakia outsources visa applications to TLScontact in Turkey. Book an appointment online at the TLScontact website for the center in Ankara or Istanbul. Walk-ins are not accepted.
3
Attend the appointment and submit biometrics
Go to the TLScontact center on your appointment date. Bring all original documents plus photocopies. You will provide fingerprints and a digital photo. The visa fee (€80 for adults, €40 for children 6–12) is paid at this point.
4
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days, but can extend to 30–45 days during peak season. You can track your application online using the reference number from TLScontact.
5
Collect your passport
Once a decision is made, you will receive an email to collect your passport from the TLScontact center. If approved, the visa sticker will be inside. If rejected, you will get a formal refusal letter with reasons.
6
Travel and enter Slovakia
At the Slovak border (airport, land, or sea), present your passport with the visa. The border officer may ask for your return ticket, accommodation, and proof of funds. Keep these handy.
