Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa at the airport in Dakar (DSS) or at any land border. Pay in cash (EUR or XOF) — have the exact amount ready. The visa costs around €50–€80 depending on your nationality and length of stay.Check visa portalRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Senegal
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone. A booking confirmation email works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry at least €200–€300 in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Credit cards are accepted in Dakar but cash is king at smaller shops and taxis.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa-on-arrival fee must be paid in cash — euros or CFA francs. There is no ATM before immigration, and cards are not accepted. Bring enough cash to cover the fee (around 50–100 EUR) plus some extra for incidentals.
Visa on arrival is not extendable
If you plan to stay longer than the visa allows, you'll need to leave Senegal and re-enter, or apply for a longer-term visa at a Senegalese embassy before your trip. Overstaying can result in fines or deportation.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dakar Airport
After deplaning at Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS), follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Visa on Arrival' — it's a separate counter before passport control.
2
Queue at the visa counter
Hand over your passport, return ticket (printed or on phone), and accommodation booking. The officer will check your documents and tell you the fee.
3
Pay the fee
Pay in cash (euros or CFA francs). Keep the receipt — you may need it later. No card payments accepted.
4
Receive your visa sticker
The officer will affix a visa sticker into your passport and stamp it. Check the validity dates before walking away.
5
Proceed to passport control
Now go to the main immigration queue. Present your passport with the new visa. You'll get an entry stamp and can collect your luggage.

Frequently asked questions

The fee is typically around 50–100 EUR, depending on the length of stay. Pay in cash — euros or CFA francs are accepted. Cards are not accepted at the immigration counter.
No, the visa on arrival is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must leave the country and re-enter, or apply for a longer-term visa at a Senegalese embassy before travel.
Yes, if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever risk. Turkish passport holders coming directly from Turkey usually don't need it, but if you've recently traveled to an endemic area, you must show a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Check with your airline before departure.
You may be denied the visa on arrival. Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. A refundable ticket or a bus/ferry booking out of Senegal also works.
Yes, but it's less reliable than at the airport. The main land border crossings (e.g., from The Gambia, Mauritania, Mali) sometimes issue visas on arrival, but you may face longer waits or be turned away. Flying into Dakar is the safest bet.
Usually 15–30 minutes, but it can take up to an hour during peak arrival times (evenings and weekends). Have your documents ready to speed things up.
No pre-arrival form is required. You'll fill out a simple immigration card on the plane or at the airport. No online registration needed.
