RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
No visa on arrival — plan ahead
Turkmenistan does not offer visa on arrival or e-visa for Turkish passport holders. You must apply at the embassy in Ankara well in advance. Last-minute travel is not possible without a visa.
Registration required after 3 days
If you stay longer than 3 days, you must be registered with the State Migration Service. Hotels do this automatically, but if you're staying with friends or family, you need to do it yourself. Keep the registration slip for departure.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visa at the Turkmen embassy
You must submit your visa application in person or through a travel agency to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ankara. Processing takes 10–15 working days. You'll need to provide your passport, a completed application form, a passport photo, and a letter of invitation from a Turkmen host or tour company.
2
Wait for approval and collect visa
Once approved, the embassy will issue a visa sticker in your passport. You can collect it in person or have it mailed back if arranged. Check the visa validity dates carefully before you travel.
3
Arrive at Ashgabat International Airport
At immigration, present your passport with the visa sticker, your return ticket, and your accommodation booking. The officer may ask a few questions about your purpose of visit. Keep your documents in an easily accessible folder.
4
Register with the State Migration Service
If you stay more than 3 days, your hotel or host must register you with the local migration office within 3 working days of arrival. If you're staying in a private home, you need to do this yourself at the nearest office. Keep the registration slip — you'll need it when leaving.
