Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in Ukraine. Ukraine does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but your airline might enforce it — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Immigration officers at Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave within 90 days.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $50 per day of your stay. Immigration may ask if you look underprepared, but it's not a standard check.Recommended
Overstay penalties
Overstaying your 90-day visa-free period can lead to fines and a potential ban from re-entering Ukraine. Track your days carefully and leave before the deadline.
Travel insurance recommended
While not mandatory for entry, travel insurance is strongly advised. Medical costs in Ukraine can be high, and insurance covers emergencies, hospital stays, and evacuation.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Gather your passport (valid 6+ months), return ticket confirmation, first-night accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Save digital copies on your phone and print backups.
2
Arrive at a Ukrainian port of entry
At airports like Kyiv Boryspil (KBP) or Lviv (LWO), proceed to the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and be ready to show your return ticket and accommodation if asked.
3
Receive your entry stamp
The border officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. Check the stamp is legible before leaving the counter. You are allowed to stay up to 90 days from this date.
4
Exit Ukraine before 90 days
Keep track of your stay. Overstaying can result in fines or future entry bans. If you need more time, you must apply for an extension before your 90 days expire.
