Fiji customs rules & duty-free allowances
Arriving in Fiji in 2026? Your duty-free allowance is FJD 800 (about USD 360) for personal goods, plus 1 liter of alcohol and 200 cigarettes. Cash over FJD 10,000 (USD 4,500) must be declared. Strict bans on drugs, certain meats, and biosecurity items apply.
Duty-free allowances
Prohibited — banned from import
- Illicit drugs and narcotics
- Firearms, ammunition, and explosives (without a permit)
- Pornographic materials
- Certain meats and animal products (e.g., pork, poultry from countries with disease outbreaks)
- Fresh fruits, vegetables, and seeds (without biosecurity clearance)
- Counterfeit goods and currency
Restricted — allowed with a permit or declaration
- Medicines containing controlled substances (require a prescription and prior approval from the Ministry of Health)
- Plants and plant products (require a biosecurity import permit)
- Pets (require an import permit, microchip, and rabies vaccination certificate)
- Drones (require a permit from the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji)
- Satellite phones and other telecommunications equipment (require a license from the Telecommunications Authority)
Rules worth knowing
Biosecurity Declaration
All arriving passengers must complete a biosecurity declaration form. Failure to declare food, plants, or animal products can result in an on-the-spot fine of FJD 400 (about USD 180).
Kava (Yaqona) Allowance
You may bring up to 2 kg of kava (dried root) duty-free for personal use. Larger quantities require a permit from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Tobacco and Alcohol Age Limit
You must be 18 or older to bring in duty-free alcohol or tobacco. Customs may ask for ID.
Used Personal Effects
Used personal effects (clothing, toiletries, etc.) are generally duty-free, but new or high-value items (e.g., laptops, cameras) may be subject to duty if they exceed the FJD 800 allowance.
