Haiti customs rules & duty-free allowances

Haiti's duty-free allowance for non-resident adults arriving in 2026 is 1 liter of alcohol and 200 cigarettes or 250g of tobacco. Cash amounts over USD 10,000 must be declared. Narcotics, counterfeit goods, and certain fruits/vegetables are strictly prohibited.

Restricted — allowed with a permit or declaration

  • Medicines for personal use: must be in original packaging with a prescription or doctor's note for more than a 30-day supply
  • Pets (dogs, cats): require a valid rabies vaccination certificate and an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture
  • Drones and radio communication equipment: require prior approval from the Haitian telecommunications regulator (CONATEL)
  • Cultural artifacts and antiques: require an export permit from the Haitian Institute for the Protection of National Heritage (ISPAN)
  • Firearms and ammunition: only allowed with a special import license from the Haitian National Police

Currency declaration

Any amount exceeding USD 10,000 (or equivalent in HTG or other currencies) must be declared. Failure to declare can result in seizure and fines.

Temporary import of vehicles

Non-residents may temporarily import a vehicle for up to 90 days without duty, provided a carnet de passage or a bank guarantee is presented. Extensions require customs approval.

Prohibited agricultural products

Fresh produce, meat, and dairy products from countries with known disease outbreaks (e.g., avian flu, swine fever) are strictly banned. All food items must be declared.

Gifts and commercial samples

Commercial samples and gifts valued over USD 800 are subject to duty. Multiple trips with similar goods may be treated as commercial imports.
