Rules worth knowing

Alcohol and Pork for Non-Muslims Only

Jordan strictly prohibits the import of alcohol and pork by Muslims. Non-Muslim travellers may bring limited quantities for personal use (1 liter alcohol, pork within reason) but must declare them and may be asked to prove non-Muslim status (e.g., passport showing religion or a church membership card).

Gifts from Duty-Free Shops

Items purchased at duty-free shops outside Jordan are included in the JOD 200 personal goods allowance. If the total value exceeds JOD 200, duty and tax apply on the excess. Keep receipts.

Currency Declaration Threshold

Any traveller carrying cash or monetary instruments (including checks, bonds, gold) equivalent to JOD 15,000 or more must declare it. Amounts over JOD 10,000 require prior Central Bank approval; failure to declare can result in seizure and fines.
