Kyrgyzstan's duty-free allowance for arriving non-resident adults in 2026 is personal goods up to USD 800 and 1 liter of alcohol, 200 cigarettes or 250g tobacco. Cash over USD 10,000 must be declared. Narcotics, weapons, and certain meats are strictly prohibited.

Prohibited — banned from import

  • Firearms, ammunition, explosives, and military equipment (without a permit from the Ministry of Internal Affairs)
  • Radioactive materials and hazardous waste
  • Pornographic materials (including digital media)
  • Endangered species and products derived from them (CITES-listed)
  • Meat and dairy products from countries with foot-and-mouth disease or avian flu (unless certified and pre-approved)

Restricted — allowed with a permit or declaration

  • Medicines containing psychotropic or narcotic ingredients (require a prescription and a doctor's note, limited to 30-day supply)
  • Plants, seeds, and agricultural products (require phytosanitary certificate)
  • Drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (require registration with the State Agency for Civil Aviation)
  • Satellite phones and encryption equipment (require a permit from the State Committee for National Security)
  • Cultural property and antiques (require an export permit from the Ministry of Culture)

Rules worth knowing

Temporary import of vehicles

Non-residents may temporarily import a vehicle for up to 1 year without paying duty, but must register it with customs and obtain a temporary import permit. The vehicle cannot be sold or leased in Kyrgyzstan.

Currency declaration for KGS

Export of Kyrgyzstani som is limited to KGS 3,000 per person (about USD 35). Import of KGS is unrestricted but amounts over USD 10,000 equivalent must be declared.

Gifts and personal electronics

Laptops, cameras, and smartphones are generally considered personal items and not counted in the USD 800 duty-free allowance if they are for personal use. Customs may ask you to prove they are not for resale.

Red and green channels

At Bishkek's Manas International Airport, use the green channel if you have nothing to declare (goods under USD 800, no restricted items). Use the red channel if you exceed allowances or carry restricted goods.
