Uzbekistan customs rules & duty-free allowances

Uzbekistan permits duty-free import of up to 1 liter of alcohol and 200 cigarettes (or 50 cigars or 250g tobacco) for travelers aged 18+. Cash over USD 10,000 must be declared. Narcotics, psychotropic substances, and certain printed materials are strictly prohibited.

  • Medicines containing psychotropic or narcotic substances (require a prescription and a permit from the Ministry of Health)
  • Cultural valuables (antiques, artworks, archaeological finds) require an export permit from the Ministry of Culture
  • Drones and unmanned aerial vehicles require prior registration and permission from the State Security Service
  • Satellite phones and radio equipment require a permit from the Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications
  • Plants, seeds, and live animals require phytosanitary or veterinary certificates

Rules worth knowing

Currency Declaration

All travelers entering Uzbekistan with cash, traveler's cheques, or monetary instruments exceeding USD 10,000 (or equivalent) must complete a customs declaration form. The declaration must be presented upon exit to avoid confiscation.

Temporary Import of Vehicles

Foreign-registered vehicles may be imported duty-free for up to 3 months. A temporary import permit is issued at the border, and the vehicle must be re-exported within that period or face penalties.

Prohibited Printed Materials

Import of literature, videos, or digital media that contain extremist, separatist, or pornographic content is strictly prohibited. Customs officers may inspect electronic devices and confiscate offending materials.

Gold and Precious Metals

Import of gold bars, coins, or jewelry exceeding a total value of USD 10,000 must be declared. Export of gold items without a permit from the Central Bank is prohibited.
