Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay in Schengen area
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your trip within the Schengen zone. Iceland does not enforce the 6-month rule, but your airline might — check with them before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at Keflavík will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines sometimes check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your hotel confirmation or host's address ready. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it printed or on your phone avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay. No fixed amount is published, but 10,000 ISK per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Schengen area rules apply
Your 90-day visa-free stay applies to the entire Schengen area (29 European countries). Days spent in any Schengen country count toward your 90-day limit. Track your days carefully.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines may deny boarding if your passport doesn't meet this requirement, even if Iceland allows entry.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Keflavík International Airport (KEF)
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for EU/EEA and non-EU passengers. As a Taiwan passport holder, use the non-EU queue.
2
Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask about the purpose of your visit, how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Have your return ticket and accommodation details ready.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. This stamp records your entry into the Schengen area. Check that the stamp is clear before walking away.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There are no additional checks for most tourists. You're free to enter Iceland.

Not strictly mandatory for visa-free travelers, but border officers can ask for proof of insurance covering medical expenses and repatriation (minimum €30,000). It's strongly recommended — medical costs in Iceland are high.
Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, and a ban from re-entering the Schengen area. The overstay period is tracked in the Schengen Information System. Leave before your 90 days are up.
Yes. Iceland is part of the Schengen area. If you fly via a Schengen hub like Frankfurt or Amsterdam, you'll clear passport control at the first Schengen airport you enter. The 90-day limit applies to the entire Schengen zone, not just Iceland.
