Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay in Latvia
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Latvia. Schengen rules don't require 6 months of validity beyond your stay — just cover your dates. Airlines sometimes enforce 3 months, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration at Riga Airport will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines check this at check-in too. A bus or train ticket to a non-Schengen country works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from a friend with their address ready. I've been asked for this at Riga passport control twice.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Latvia can ask for proof you have at least €14 per day of your stay. A bank statement or credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies them. They rarely check this for Taiwanese passport holders, but have it ready.Recommended
Schengen area rules apply
Latvia is part of the Schengen zone. Your 90-day visa-free stay counts across all Schengen countries. Keep track of your days to avoid overstaying.
No visa needed for short stays
Taiwan passport holders enjoy visa-free access to Latvia for up to 90 days. Just ensure your passport is valid and you have a return ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Riga Airport or land border
At Riga International Airport (RIX), follow signs to 'Non-EU Passports'. Join the queue for non-Schengen arrivals. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket ready.
2
Present your documents to the immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask about the purpose of your visit, length of stay, and accommodation. Answer clearly and briefly. They will stamp your passport with the entry date and allowed stay.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel. If you have nothing to declare, use the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel. You're now free to enter Latvia.
