Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Mongolia eVisa at evisa.mn before your flight. Processing takes 3–5 business days, so submit at least a week ahead. Print the approval email and keep a digital copy on your phone — immigration at Chinggis Khaan Airport will ask to scan the QR code.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Taiwan passport must be valid for at least the full duration of your stay in Mongolia. Airlines at Taoyuan may enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Show proof of departure
Immigration officers at Ulaanbaatar routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Mongolia. Border officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a recent bank statement or credit card showing sufficient funds for your trip. Immigration may ask if you look underprepared — 500 USD equivalent is a safe benchmark.Recommended
eVisa Only — No Visa on Arrival
Taiwan passport holders cannot get a visa at the airport. You must apply and receive approval online before departure. Don't risk showing up without one.
Passport Validity Counts from Entry Date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Mongolia, not from when you apply. If it expires sooner, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa Online
Go to evisa.mn and fill out the application. Upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days, but apply at least a week before your trip.
2
Receive and Print eVisa
Once approved, you'll get a PDF via email. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and at immigration in Ulaanbaatar.
3
Prepare Documents for Departure
Before heading to the airport, gather: passport (valid 6+ months), printed eVisa, return ticket, hotel booking confirmation, and travel insurance details. Keep them in your carry-on.
4
Arrival at Ulaanbaatar (Chinggis Khaan International Airport)
After landing, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration counters. Present your passport, eVisa, and return ticket. The officer may ask about your accommodation and purpose of visit. Answer clearly. The process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
5
Collect Baggage and Exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're free to enter Mongolia.
