Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Kosovo. Airlines at check-in will verify this before you board.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kosovo
Immigration officers at Pristina International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation email or a letter from a host is enough — no need to print, just show it on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Officers occasionally ask how you'll fund your trip. A bank statement or credit card with a few hundred euros available usually satisfies them.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will not be allowed to fly. No exceptions.
Kosovo does not require an arrival declaration
Unlike some other Balkan countries, Kosovo does not require you to register your arrival with local authorities. Just show your passport at the border and you're good to go.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots or print confirmations. Consider getting travel insurance and a local eSIM.
2
Arrive at Pristina International Airport (PRN)
Most travellers fly into Pristina. After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' or 'Border Police'. There are separate queues for EU/EEA and non-EU passports — join the non-EU line.
3
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask about your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Be ready to show your return ticket and accommodation booking if asked. Answer clearly and concisely.
4
Receive entry stamp and proceed
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Collect your passport and proceed to baggage claim. The whole process typically takes 5–15 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

No, the 90-day stay is not extendable. You must leave Kosovo before the 90 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, or a ban from re-entering.
If you are transiting through Pristina Airport and do not leave the international transit area, you generally do not need a visa. However, if you need to enter Kosovo (e.g., to catch a connecting flight the next day), the visa-free rules apply — you can stay up to 90 days.
You will likely be denied boarding by your airline or refused entry by Kosovo border police. Renew your passport before travelling. There are no exceptions for short trips.
No, the visa-free stay is for tourism, business visits, or short-term family visits only. Working or studying requires a separate visa or permit. You must apply at a Kosovo embassy before you travel.
Kosovo is generally safe for tourists, with low violent crime rates. However, petty theft can occur in crowded areas. Keep an eye on your belongings, especially in Pristina's markets and bus stations. The US State Department rates Kosovo at Level 2 (exercise increased caution) due to occasional political tensions.
Kosovo uses the Euro (EUR). ATMs are widely available in cities, and credit cards are accepted at hotels and larger restaurants. Carry some cash for smaller shops and taxis.
No vaccinations are required for entry. Routine vaccines (MMR, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, polio) are recommended. Hepatitis A and typhoid vaccines are advised if you plan to eat street food or visit rural areas.
