Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Tanzanian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in the Bahamas. Airlines check this before boarding, so verify your passport's expiry date before booking.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Bahamas
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you'll leave within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines may also check this at check-in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation, hostel booking, or a letter from a host with their address and contact details. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Evidence of sufficient money for your stay
Have bank statements, a credit card, or cash showing you can cover your expenses. There's no fixed minimum, but around $100 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter the Bahamas. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding. Renew early.
No visa, but still need documents
Visa-free doesn't mean document-free. Always carry your return ticket and accommodation details. Immigration can ask for them at any time.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) or other port of entry
You'll go through immigration at the airport or cruise terminal. Join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation address ready. The officer will stamp your passport and note the 90-day stay.
2
Present documents and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, where you're staying, how long, and when you're leaving. Answer clearly. They may also ask to see your return ticket or hotel booking.
3
Receive entry stamp
If everything is fine, you'll get an entry stamp with the date and allowed stay. Check the stamp before leaving the counter — if the dates are wrong, ask for correction immediately.

No. The visa-free stay is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave and re-enter, but that's risky and not guaranteed. Best to plan your trip within 90 days.
If you're transiting and not leaving the airport, you still need to meet the same entry requirements — valid passport and onward ticket. No visa needed for transit, but you'll go through immigration if you leave the sterile area.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Bahamian immigration. Renew your passport before traveling. No exceptions.
Not officially required, but if asked, having a credit card or bank statement showing you can cover your stay helps. No specific amount is stated.
No. Visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or short visits only. For work or study, you need a proper visa or permit arranged before travel.
Overstaying is a violation. You could face fines, detention, or a ban from re-entering. The Bahamas takes overstays seriously. Leave before your stamp expires.
No. There is no arrival declaration required for Tanzanian passport holders. Just show up with your documents.
