Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Tanzanian passport needs to be valid for at least the length of your stay in Ghana. Ghana does not enforce a strict 6-month validity rule, but airlines may ask for it at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ghana
Immigration officers at Kotoka International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Ghana. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or cash equivalent to at least $500 USD for your stay. Immigration may ask how you plan to fund your trip — a quick answer and a bank app screenshot works.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory
You must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) to enter Ghana. Without it, you may be vaccinated on arrival or denied entry. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.
No visa needed, but be prepared
While you don't need a visa, immigration officers still expect to see a return ticket and proof of accommodation. Have these ready on your phone or printed.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kotoka International Airport (ACC)
Most travellers fly into Accra. After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for Ghanaian citizens and foreigners — join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport (valid 6+ months) and your return/onward ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. Declare any items over the duty-free limit. Green channel if nothing to declare, red channel if you have goods to declare.
