Apply before travel
Apply for a Chad eVisa at the official portal e-visa.td. Processing takes 2–3 business days, and you need a digital passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Print the approval email and carry it with your passport to present at immigration in N'Djamena.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay
Your Tanzanian passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Chad does not enforce a 6-month validity rule beyond your stay, but airlines may ask for it — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers in N'Djamena routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready to show at the border.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Chad. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the immigration desk.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support your stay
Have a bank statement or cash equivalent to roughly 200,000 CFA francs (about $330 USD) per person. Immigration may ask for proof of sufficient funds, especially if you arrive without a return ticket.Recommended
Apply early — no visa on arrival
Tanzanian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Chad. You must apply for an e-visa online before you travel. Processing can take up to a week, so don't leave it to the last minute.
Yellow fever vaccine required
Chad requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate for all travellers over 1 year old. You'll likely be asked to show it at immigration. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to the official Chad e-visa portal (https://e-visa.td/) and complete the application. Upload a digital passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online. Processing usually takes 3–7 business days, so apply at least 2 weeks before your trip.
2
Receive and print your visa approval
Once approved, you'll get a PDF visa approval letter by email. Print two copies — one to present at check-in and one for immigration on arrival.
3
Arrive at N'Djamena International Airport
Most travellers fly into N'Djamena (NDJ). After landing, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. Hand over your passport, visa approval letter, and return ticket. An officer may ask for your accommodation address. They'll stamp your passport and you're in.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim. Then head to customs — green channel if you have nothing to declare. Exit into the arrivals hall.
