Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay in Belgium
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Belgium. Schengen rules do not require 6 months beyond departure, but your airline may enforce it — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Belgian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a signed letter from your host with their address and contact info. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need a clear answer.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you have at least €45 per day of your stay. A printed statement from the last week works best.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Belgium. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you will not be allowed to fly.
Schengen 90/180-day rule
Your 90-day visa-free stay applies to the entire Schengen area, not just Belgium. Keep track of your days using the Schengen calculator app. Overstaying can lead to a ban.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Brussels Airport (BRU)
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' for non-EU citizens. Join the queue for 'All Passports' or 'Non-EU'. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer may ask about your trip purpose, accommodation, and return ticket. Answer clearly and briefly. You'll get a stamp in your passport — check the date is correct before walking away.
2
Arrival at other Belgian airports or land borders
Same process at Charleroi (CRL), Antwerp (ANR), or Liege (LGG). At land borders from France, Germany, Luxembourg, or the Netherlands, there are no routine passport checks, but random checks happen. Always carry your passport.
3
During your stay
You can travel freely within the Schengen area (26 countries) for up to 90 days total. Keep your passport and a copy of your accommodation booking with you. If asked by police or immigration, show your passport and explain your stay.
