Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Cyprus
Your passport needs to be valid for the whole time you are in Cyprus. Immigration officers at Larnaca and Paphos airports check this — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof you will leave Cyprus within 90 days
Airlines at Kyiv Boryspil and Larnaca check for a return or onward ticket before they let you board. Have a printed or digital copy ready — a one-way ticket without proof of onward travel will get you stopped.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. A booking on Booking.com or Airbnb works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. Have a bank statement or credit card ready — around €50 per day is a safe benchmark. Cyprus rarely enforces this strictly, but it helps to have it.Recommended
Overstaying is serious
Overstaying even by one day can result in a fine and a ban from re-entering Cyprus or the Schengen area. Set a reminder to leave before day 90.
Travel insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended
While not required for entry, medical costs in Cyprus can be high. A basic travel insurance policy covering medical evacuation costs around €20–€50 and can save you thousands.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Print or save digital copies of your return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Download a local eSIM or buy a SIM at the airport.
2
Arrive at Larnaca or Paphos airport
You'll go through passport control. Join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and be ready to show your return ticket and accommodation if asked.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. This stamp marks the start of your 90-day visa-free stay. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when leaving.
4
Exit passport control and collect luggage
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim and then customs. There are no additional visa-related steps.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 90-day visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or short-term visits. You cannot take up employment or work for a Cypriot company without a work permit.
No. The visa-free period cannot be extended. You must leave Cyprus before the 90 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, and a ban from re-entering the Schengen area.
You would need to apply for a long-stay visa or residence permit from the Cyprus Civil Registry and Migration Department before your 90 days expire. This is a separate process and requires a valid reason (e.g., work, study, family reunification).
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is not recognised by the Republic of Cyprus. Entry into the TRNC is generally easier, but crossing the Green Line back into the Republic of Cyprus may cause issues if you entered via the north. For most travellers, it's simpler to stay within the Republic's controlled areas.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport before travelling. If your passport is damaged (e.g., torn pages, water damage), get a new one.
It's not a standard requirement for Ukrainian passport holders, but immigration officers may ask to see that you have enough money for your stay. Having a credit card or a bank statement on your phone is usually sufficient.
It depends. Emergency passports are not always accepted. Check with the Cyprus embassy or consulate before travelling. A standard biometric passport is the safest option.
