Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in North Macedonia. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines may ask for at least 3 months validity.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from North Macedonia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check this at Skopje Airport.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have at least €50 per day of stay available in cash, bank statement, or credit card. Officers almost never check this for short visits, but it's good to have.Recommended
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport well before travel.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save photos of your passport, return ticket, and accommodation booking on your phone and in cloud storage. If you lose your passport, these copies make replacement at the Ukrainian embassy much faster.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry), print or save your return ticket, accommodation booking, and insurance. Download an eSIM or buy a local SIM at Skopje Airport arrivals hall.
2
Arrive at North Macedonian border
At Skopje International Airport or any land border, join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and any requested documents. Expect a quick check — usually under 2 minutes.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with your entry date. Verify the stamp is correct before walking away. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it for your exit.
4
Exit before 90 days
Count your days from entry. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban. If you need more time, you must apply for an extension at the Ministry of Interior in Skopje before your 90 days expire.
