Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Single-entry visa issued at the airport
Get a single-entry visa on arrival at Harare, Victoria Falls, or Bulawayo airports. Pay $30 USD in cash (exact change preferred) — they do not accept cards or other currencies. The process takes 5–10 minutes at the counter before immigration.Check eVisa portalRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport needs at least one blank page for the visa sticker. Zimbabwe does not enforce a 6-month validity rule — just make sure it covers your entire stay. Airlines flying into Zimbabwe may ask for 6 months, so check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Zimbabwe
Immigration officers at Harare and Victoria Falls routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or the booking confirmation on your phone ready. If you are overlanding out, show a bus ticket or a written itinerary.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers sometimes ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel. Have a printed reservation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. A simple booking confirmation email works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Immigration may ask for proof of sufficient funds for your stay. Carry at least $200–$300 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing available balance. Credit cards are accepted in major hotels but cash is king for smaller expenses.Recommended
Bring USD cash for the visa fee
Cards are not accepted at immigration counters. Have small bills ($5, $10, $20) — large notes may be hard to break.
Visa on arrival is straightforward
The process takes 5–10 minutes at major airports. No need to apply online or visit an embassy beforehand.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at entry point
At Harare or Victoria Falls airport, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. At land borders (e.g., Beitbridge, Chirundu), go to the visa counter before passport control.
2
Fill out the visa application form
You'll get a short form on arrival. It asks for your name, passport number, flight details, and where you're staying. Fill it in while queuing.
3
Present documents and pay
Hand over your passport, completed form, return ticket (screenshot is fine), and the visa fee in USD cash. The officer will process it — usually takes 5–10 minutes.
4
Receive visa and enter
The visa sticker is placed in your passport. Check that the validity dates and number of entries are correct. Then proceed to passport control for your entry stamp.
