Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Belarus visa application
Visa required
You need a visa before traveling to Belarus. Apply at the Belarus Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or at a Belarusian embassy. Processing times vary, so start at least two weeks before your trip.Apply for visaRequired
Valid passport
Original passport required
Your passport must be valid for at least 90 days beyond your intended departure date from Belarus. Airlines check this at check-in, and border officers enforce it strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Minsk National Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready to show.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Border officials may ask for a hotel reservation or a notarized invitation from a Belarusian host. Keep a printed confirmation or a digital copy accessible.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial means for stay
You may need to show you have enough money for your stay — roughly €50 per day. A bank statement or credit card statement from the last month works.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Belarus. If it expires sooner, your e-visa will be rejected. Check your passport now, not the week before you fly.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your e-visa approval, return ticket, and hotel confirmation as PDFs on your phone. Also email them to yourself. If you lose your phone, you can still access them.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to e-visa.by/en/ and fill out the application. You’ll need your passport details, travel dates, and accommodation info. Upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around €60–€80 depending on processing speed). Wait for approval — typically 3–7 business days.
2
Prepare your documents for travel
Print or save digital copies of your e-visa approval, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. Keep them together in a folder or on your phone for quick access.
3
Arrive at Minsk National Airport (MSQ)
After landing, follow signs to passport control. Present your passport and e-visa approval. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly — they’re checking you have a reason to leave.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
Once stamped in, head to baggage claim. There are no additional checks beyond customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.

Frequently asked questions

No. There is no visa-on-arrival for Ugandan passport holders. You must have an approved e-visa before you travel.
Standard processing takes 3–7 business days. You can pay extra for express service (usually 1–2 days) for about €80–€100. Apply at least a week before your trip.
The standard single-entry e-visa costs around €60. Express processing adds about €20–€40. Payment is online by credit card.
If you’re transiting through Minsk airport and staying airside (not passing through passport control), you don’t need a visa. But if you need to enter Belarus for any reason, you need the e-visa.
Extensions are not available for e-visa holders. You must leave before your visa expires. If you need a longer stay, apply for a different visa type at a Belarusian embassy before travel.
Rejections are rare but can happen if your documents are incomplete or your passport has less than 6 months validity. You’ll get a refund of the visa fee minus a processing fee. Reapply with corrected documents.
Hotels handle registration automatically. If you’re staying in a private apartment, your host must register you within 3 days. Failure to register can result in a fine when you leave.
