Ugandan passport holders can enter Ghana without a visa for stays up to 90 days. This policy started in 2024, so no visa application is needed for tourism or business visits. Just ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your arrival date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the length of your stay in Ghana. Airlines check this at check-in. If your passport expires within 6 months, carry a printed copy of your flight itinerary to show immigration.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ghana
Immigration at Kotoka International Airport asks for a return or onward ticket within 90 days. Airlines enforce this strictly — without one, you may be denied boarding. A printed itinerary or e-ticket works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration officers sometimes ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. A booking on Booking.com or Airbnb works — just show the confirmation email.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers may ask for proof of sufficient funds for your stay. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing at least $500 USD. Cash is accepted but not required — a card with a visible balance works.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine required
You must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) upon arrival. Without it, you may be refused entry or quarantined. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.
No visa, no fee
Since Ugandans enter visa-free, there is no visa application fee. Just show up with your valid passport and onward ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kotoka International Airport (ACC)
Most travelers fly into Accra. After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for Ghanaian citizens and foreigners — join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport (valid 6+ months) and any supporting documents if asked. The officer will check your details, stamp your passport, and wave you through. This usually takes 1-2 minutes per person.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's no arrival declaration form to fill out for most travelers. Once through, you're free to enter Ghana.
