Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Ugandan passport holders need an eVisa to enter Kazakhstan. Apply at the official eVisa portal at least 5 working days before departure. The eVisa is single-entry and valid for up to 30 days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Kazakhstan. No minimum validity period beyond your departure date is required by Kazakh law, but airlines may enforce 6 months validity — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Almaty and Nur-Sultan airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Border officers may ask for a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Kazakhstan. Keep a printed copy of your booking confirmation or the host's notarized invitation.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support your stay
Officers may request evidence of sufficient funds — around $50–$100 USD per day of stay. A recent bank statement or credit card with available limit works.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
Ugandan passport holders cannot get a visa at the airport in Kazakhstan. You must have an approved eVisa before you board your flight. Airlines check this at check-in.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Kazakhstan, not from when you apply. If your passport expires sooner, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.e-gov.kz/en/ and fill out the application. You will need a digital photo, passport scan, and travel details. Pay the fee online. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days, but apply at least a week before your trip.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you will get a PDF via email. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You will need it at check-in and when you arrive at the airport in Kazakhstan.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Before you leave, gather: passport (6+ months validity), eVisa printout, return/onward ticket, first night accommodation confirmation, and travel insurance if you have it. Keep them in your carry-on.
4
Arrive at the airport in Kazakhstan
At immigration, present your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly. The process is straightforward — expect a short queue.
