Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Mongolia eVisa at evisa.mn. Processing takes 3–5 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Chinggis Khaan Airport will stamp it on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your Uganda passport needs at least 6 months remaining beyond your intended departure date from Mongolia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Ulaanbaatar routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Mongolia ready — they will check the date matches your eVisa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Mongolia. Border officers occasionally ask where you are staying — having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Have at least $50 USD per day available — cash, credit card, or a bank statement works. Immigration rarely asks, but if you cannot show means to support yourself, they can deny entry.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no exceptions
Ugandan passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Mongolia. You must have the eVisa approved before you board your flight. Airlines check this at check-in.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Mongolia, not from when you apply. Double-check before you start the eVisa process.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Mongolian eVisa portal (evisa.mn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee with a credit or debit card. Processing usually takes 3-5 business days, but apply at least a week before your trip to be safe.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get an email with your eVisa PDF. Print a copy and save a digital version on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Mongolia.
3
Arrive at Ulaanbaatar (Chinggis Khaan International Airport)
Most flights land at the main airport. Go to the immigration counter for foreign passports. Hand over your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. They'll stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 10-15 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel. There's a customs declaration if you're carrying large amounts of cash or restricted items. Otherwise, just walk through the green channel.
