Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Romania eVisa application
Apply before travel
You need a visa to enter Romania. Apply online at the Romania eVisa Portal at least 15 days before your trip. The eVisa is valid for 90 days from issue, allows a single entry, and costs €30. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Ugandan passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure date from Romania. It must have at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Airlines check this at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit from Schengen area
Border officers will ask for a confirmed return or onward flight out of Romania or the Schengen zone. A bus or train ticket to a non-Schengen country also works. Have the booking confirmation ready on your phone or printed.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Immigration may ask for a hotel reservation, hostel booking, or a notarized invitation letter from a Romanian host covering your entire stay. Airbnb bookings with the host's address are accepted.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers can request evidence of sufficient funds — around €50 per day of stay. A recent bank statement, credit card with available limit, or cash in euros works. Keep it accessible, not buried in your bag.Recommended
Apply early — no last-minute option
Romania does not offer visa on arrival for Ugandan passport holders. You must have an approved visa before you board your flight. Processing can take 2 weeks, so don't leave it to the last minute.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your visa approval, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation on your phone. Also email them to yourself. If your phone dies or gets lost, you can access them from any device.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your visa online
Go to evisa.mae.ro and fill out the application. Upload your passport scan, photo, travel itinerary, and accommodation proof. Pay the fee (around €80 for a short-stay visa). Processing takes 10–15 days, so apply at least 3 weeks before your trip.
2
Wait for approval
You'll get an email when your visa is approved. Download the PDF and save it on your phone. Print a copy too — some airlines ask to see it at check-in.
3
Arrive at Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport
At immigration, hand over your passport and visa approval. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport — check the stamp says the correct number of days.
4
Exit Romania
Before your visa expires, leave Romania. At the airport, immigration will stamp you out. If you overstay, you risk fines and future visa bans.
