Status
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure date from Cyprus
Your passport needs at least 3 months of validity remaining after your planned exit from Cyprus. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.
Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cyprus or Schengen area
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave Cyprus (or the Schengen zone) within 90 days. Budget airlines flying into Larnaca and Paphos enforce this strictly at check-in.
Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed or digital hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a signed letter from your host with their address and phone number. Officers at Larnaca airport ask for this about half the time.
Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, card, or bank statement
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay — roughly €50–€100 per day. Cyprus rarely asks for this, but having it ready avoids delays.
Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Cyprus. If it's close to expiring, renew before you go. Airlines may also deny boarding if your passport doesn't meet this requirement.
No visa, but still need proof of onward travel
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration can ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a screenshot or printed copy ready. It's rare to be asked, but it happens.
What happens at the border
1
Arrive at Larnaca or Paphos airport
You'll go through passport control. Join the queue for 'All Passports' or 'Non-EU'. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel for nothing to declare, red channel for goods over the duty-free limit.
Enter your arrival date and we'll tell you exactly when you need to leave.

No. The visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave before 90 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, or a ban.
You need to apply for a long-stay visa or residence permit before you travel. Contact the Cypriot embassy in the US. There's no way to extend the visa-free period once you're in Cyprus.
The Republic of Cyprus does not control the north. If you enter via Turkey or cross the Green Line, you may be denied entry to the south later. Stick to official ports of entry (Larnaca, Paphos) to avoid issues.
No. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it's close, renew before you travel.
No. There's no arrival declaration required for US citizens. Just your passport and a return ticket.
You'll be fined and may be banned from re-entering Cyprus or the Schengen area. Overstays are taken seriously. Leave on time.
Not yet. Cyprus is legally required to join but hasn't fully implemented Schengen rules yet. Your 90-day visa-free stay is separate from the Schengen 90/180 rule. However, time spent in Cyprus counts toward the 90-day limit for the Schengen area once Cyprus fully joins.
