What happens at the border

1
Gather your documents
Collect your passport (valid 6+ months), recent passport photos, proof of funds, travel itinerary, and any invitation letters. Scan them as PDFs or JPEGs for upload.
2
Create an ImmiAccount and apply online
Go to the Australian Department of Home Affairs website, create an ImmiAccount, and fill out the visitor visa (subclass 600) application. Upload your documents and pay the AUD 190 fee online.
3
Wait for processing and possible biometrics
Processing can take 2–6 weeks. If biometrics are required, you'll get a letter — book an appointment at the VAC in Tashkent (usually at 1, Mustakillik Avenue, Tashkent). Bring your passport and the letter.
4
Receive your visa grant
You'll get an email with your visa grant notification. Check the visa conditions — it will state how long you can stay (usually up to 3, 6, or 12 months). Keep a copy on your phone and a printed copy.
5
Arrive in Australia and go through immigration
At the airport (e.g., Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane), join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Present your passport and visa grant letter if asked. The officer may ask about your trip — answer honestly. You'll then collect your bags and go through customs.

Frequently asked questions

Processing times vary, but for a visitor visa (subclass 600) it typically takes 2–6 weeks. Some applications can be processed faster, but it's safest to apply at least a month in advance. You can check current processing times on the Home Affairs website.
No. The visitor visa (subclass 600) is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a different visa (like a student or work visa) from within Australia, but that's a separate process and not guaranteed. Overstaying is a serious offence.
Yes, even for transit you need a visa. You can apply for a Transit visa (subclass 771) or a visitor visa. The transit visa is free but requires you to leave within 72 hours and not leave the airport transit area. Check with your airline — they may require a visa even for a short stopover.
You won't be allowed to board your flight. Airlines are required to check that all passengers have valid visas for Australia. If you somehow arrive without one, you'll be refused entry and sent back on the next available flight, at your own cost.
Australia doesn't have an embassy in Uzbekistan. The nearest Australian embassy is in Moscow, Russia, but all visa applications are processed online through ImmiAccount. You don't need to visit an embassy — everything is done electronically, except for biometrics which are handled by the VAC in Tashkent.
You should show evidence of ties to Uzbekistan — like a job letter, property ownership, family, or enrollment at a university. Also, a return flight ticket helps. The immigration officer wants to be convinced you won't overstay.
No. There is no visa-on-arrival for Uzbek citizens in Australia. You must have an approved visa before you travel. This is a strict rule — no exceptions.
