Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Azerbaijan. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but some airlines may ask for 6 months validity — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Immigration may ask for proof of departure
Border officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready — they want to see you leave within the 90-day visa-free window.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Officers can ask for evidence of sufficient funds — roughly $50–$100 per day of your stay. A recent bank statement or a credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies them.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Azerbaijan, not from your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before you go.
No extension possible
The 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. Overstaying even by a day can lead to fines and future entry problems. Plan your exit accordingly.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry). Print or save on your phone: return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance. No visa application needed.
2
Arrive at Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport
Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration. Join the queue for non-Azerbaijani citizens. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present documents to immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly. They will stamp your passport with a 90-day entry.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. No arrival declaration form is required for standard tourist visits.
