Uzbek passport holders can get a visa on arrival at all international airports and most land border crossings in Laos. The process is straightforward — just show up with your documents and pay the fee in cash. This has been the standard procedure since 2024.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
You can apply for a Laos eVisa at laoevisa.gov.la. The eVisa costs $50 USD and is valid for single entry up to 30 days. Processing takes 3 business days — apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity remaining from your entry date into Laos. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Show proof of departure
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they will check the date matches your intended stay.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Laos. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the visa-on-arrival counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support your stay
Have at least $1,000 USD in cash or a bank statement showing available funds. Immigration may ask to see it if you look underprepared — keep it accessible in your carry-on.Recommended
Cash only — no cards
The visa-on-arrival counter does not accept credit or debit cards. Bring US dollars or Thai baht in small bills. ATMs are available after immigration, but you'll need cash before that point.
Photo service available but slow
If you forget passport photos, the airport has a photo booth — but it costs extra and adds 10–15 minutes to the process. Bring your own to breeze through.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
After landing at Wattay International Airport (Vientiane) or Luang Prabang Airport, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' before the main immigration queue. At land borders, look for the visa-on-arrival window before passport control.
2
Fill out the application form
Pick up a visa application form at the counter. Fill it out in capital letters — name, passport number, flight number, hotel address. Keep it simple.
3
Submit documents and pay fee
Hand over your passport, completed form, two photos, and the fee in cash (USD or THB). The officer will process your visa — usually takes 5–15 minutes.
4
Receive visa and proceed to passport control
Once the visa sticker is in your passport, walk to the main immigration queue. Present your passport for entry stamping. Keep your boarding pass handy — they may ask for it.

Frequently asked questions

The standard fee is $30–$40 USD for a 30-day single-entry visa. Pay in US dollars or Thai baht — exact change is best. Credit cards are not accepted.
Most international border crossings offer visa on arrival, but a few do not. The busiest and most reliable are the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridges (Nong Khai–Vientiane, Mukdahan–Savannakhet) and the border at Huay Xai (from Chiang Rai, Thailand). Avoid smaller, less-used crossings unless you've confirmed in advance.
Standard visa on arrival is valid for 30 days. You can extend it once at an immigration office in Laos for an additional 30 days (fee around $30–$50 USD). Extensions are processed in Vientiane, Luang Prabang, or Pakse.
You may be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at immigration. Buy a refundable onward ticket or use a service like OnwardTicket.com to get a temporary booking for proof.
If you're staying airside and not passing through immigration, you don't need a visa. But if you need to enter the country (e.g., to switch airports or stay overnight), you'll need the visa on arrival.
Laos offers an e-visa for some nationalities, but Uzbekistan is not currently on the list. Visa on arrival is your only option unless you apply for a traditional visa at a Lao embassy before travel.
You will be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport before traveling — no exceptions.
