Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Rwanda. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Kigali airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready — they will check it before stamping your visa.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Rwanda. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient funds for stay
Have at least $200 USD in cash or a credit card to show you can cover your stay. Immigration rarely asks, but it is better to have it ready.Recommended
Visa on arrival is the standard entry method
You don't need to apply for an e-visa beforehand. Just show up at Kigali airport or any land border with your passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and USD 50. The process takes 5–10 minutes.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Rwanda. If it's close to expiring, renew it before you go. No exceptions.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kigali International Airport (or land border)
Follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. At Kigali airport, it's the same counter as regular immigration — just tell the officer you need a visa on arrival.
2
Present your documents and pay the fee
Hand over your passport, return ticket (screenshot is fine), and accommodation booking. Pay USD 50 (cash or card). The officer will issue a visa sticker in your passport.
3
Receive your visa and proceed to baggage claim
The visa is usually processed in 5–10 minutes. Once stamped, you're free to enter. Collect your bags and exit.
