Uzbek passport holders must get an eVisa to enter Somalia. The process is fully online — no embassy visit needed. As of 2026, this is the standard entry method for tourism and short business trips.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Somalia eVisa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal. Processing takes 3–5 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Mogadishu airport checks it before stamping entry.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Somalia. At least one blank page is needed for the entry stamp. Airlines at Tashkent may ask to see your eVisa approval before boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration at Aden Adde International Airport asks for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or show it on your phone. Overstaying your visa can result in a fine of $50 USD per day.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from a Somali host helps at immigration. Officers in Mogadishu occasionally ask where you're staying. Have a printed copy ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or a debit card showing available balance. Somalia is largely cash-based — credit cards are rarely accepted outside major hotels. Immigration may ask how you'll fund your stay.Recommended
Safety first — check travel advisories
Somalia has active conflict zones and a high risk of terrorism. Before booking, read your government's travel advisory. If you decide to go, arrange local security contacts and avoid travelling alone outside major cities.
Somaliland is separate
If your trip is only to Somaliland (Hargeisa, Berbera), you need a separate visa from the Somaliland representative office. The Somali federal eVisa is not valid there.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Somali eVisa portal (if available) or use a trusted visa service. Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee with a credit card. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive and print eVisa
Once approved, you'll get a PDF by email. Print a paper copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at Mogadishu or Hargeisa airport
Most flights arrive at Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ) in Mogadishu or Egal International Airport (HGA) in Hargeisa. Go to the immigration counter, present your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. They'll stamp you in — typically for up to 30 days.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel. There's usually a customs check — declare anything valuable. Then you're free to leave the terminal.

Frequently asked questions

Typically 3–5 business days. Apply at least a week before your flight to be safe. There's no expedited option available.
No, the eVisa is not extendable. You must leave before it expires. If you need more time, you'd have to exit and re-apply.
You will be denied entry and sent back on the next flight. There is no visa on arrival for Uzbek passport holders. Always get the eVisa beforehand.
Somalia requires a yellow fever vaccination if you're arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever. Check your itinerary — if you transit through such a country, you'll need the vaccine certificate.
No. Somaliland is a self-declared republic and has its own visa system. If you're visiting Mogadishu or other southern regions, you need the Somali federal eVisa. If you're only going to Somaliland, apply for their separate visa.
Safety conditions vary greatly by region. Many governments advise against all travel to most parts of Somalia. Check your home country's travel advisory and consider hiring a reputable local guide or security service if you do go.
The Somali Shilling (SOS) is the local currency, but US dollars are widely accepted, especially for hotels and larger purchases. Bring crisp, new $100 bills — older or damaged notes may be refused. ATMs are rare outside Mogadishu.
