Vietnamese passport holders must obtain an e-visa before traveling to Afghanistan. There is no visa-on-arrival option, so you'll need to apply online in advance. The process is straightforward, but it requires careful planning and having the right documents ready.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Afghanistan e-VisaWithout a pre-approved e-Visa, you will be denied boarding and entry.
Apply online before travel
You must obtain an e-Visa prior to arrival. The e-Visa is valid for a single entry and is not extendable. Apply through the official Afghan e-Visa portal, submitting your passport details and a digital photo. Processing typically takes 3-5 business days, but apply at least 2 weeks before departure.Required
Passport validityAfghan authorities enforce the 6-month validity rule strictly; an insufficient passport will lead to refusal.
At least 6 months beyond arrival
Your Vietnamese passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival in Afghanistan. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying for the e-Visa.Required
Blank passport pagesThe border officer needs a clean page to stamp your entry.
At least 1 blank page
Your passport must contain at least 1 blank visa page (not the endorsement page) for the entry stamp. Ensure no pages are torn or damaged.Required
Return or onward ticketImmigration may ask to see your exit ticket to ensure you will not overstay.
Proof of departure
You must present a confirmed return or onward flight ticket showing departure from Afghanistan within the validity of your e-Visa (typically 30 days). The ticket must be in your name.Required
Proof of sufficient fundsWhile not always checked, having proof avoids delays or refusal.
For your stay
Carry evidence of sufficient funds for your stay, such as a bank statement or credit card, covering at least $100 USD per day. This may be requested at immigration.Recommended
Arrival declarationYou do not need to fill out any arrival declaration.
Not required
No arrival declaration form is required for Vietnam passport holders entering Afghanistan. Not required
Vaccination certificateHealth checks are not routine, but vaccination proof is wise for your safety.
Recommended
Although not a visa requirement, carry your International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (yellow card) for routine vaccines and consider polio, hepatitis A, and typhoid. Afghanistan is a polio-endemic country.Recommended
Security situation
Afghanistan is an active conflict zone. Travel is extremely dangerous, with high risk of violence, kidnapping, and terrorism. Only travel if absolutely necessary, and get professional security advice beforehand.
E-visa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
There is no visa-on-arrival for Vietnamese citizens. You must have an approved e-visa before you board your flight. Airlines will check this before allowing you to check in.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your e-visa online
Go to the official Afghan e-visa website and fill out the application form. Upload your passport photo and passport data page, and pay the fee (around $100 USD, but confirm the current amount). Processing typically takes 3-5 business days, so apply at least a week before your trip.
2
Receive your e-visa by email
Once approved, you'll get an email with your e-visa PDF. Print it out — you'll need a physical copy to show at check-in and at Afghan immigration. Save a digital backup on your phone too.
3
Arrive at Kabul International Airport
When you land at Kabul (KBL), go to the immigration hall. Have your passport, printed e-visa, and possibly your return ticket ready. The officer will check your documents, stamp your passport, and let you through. The process is usually quick if your paperwork is in order.
4
Complete any additional checks
After immigration, you may go through a security screening. Follow the signs to baggage claim and then to the arrivals exit. Keep your e-visa and passport accessible until you're out of the airport.
