Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Brunei. Immigration officers at Brunei International Airport check this at the counter — they won't let you through if it expires before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Brunei
Immigration in Brunei asks for a confirmed onward ticket before they stamp you in. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Brunei ready — they check this at the counter.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your hotel reservation or host's address ready. Immigration officers occasionally ask where you're staying — a printed booking confirmation or a screenshot on your phone works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry enough cash or a credit card to cover your stay. Immigration rarely asks for this for a 14-day visit, but having a bank statement or card handy avoids problems if they do.Recommended
Visa-free only for 14 days
The 14-day period starts the day you arrive. You cannot extend it. If you need more time, you must leave and re-enter or apply for a proper visa before your stay ends.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires within 6 months of your entry date, you will not be allowed to fly. Renew first.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Brunei International Airport (BWN)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' — it's a single hall. Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports' (not ASEAN lane). Have your passport, return ticket (digital or printed), and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will stamp you in for 14 days. The whole process usually takes 10–20 minutes.
2
Land border entry (if coming from Malaysia)
At the Sungai Tujoh or Kuala Lurah checkpoints, you'll walk to the immigration counter. Same documents needed. The officer may ask your purpose of visit — just say 'tourism' or 'transit'. Stamp is free and immediate.
