Vietnamese passport holders need a visa to enter Brazil. Apply for a tourist visa at a Brazilian embassy or consulate before you travel. The eVisa system is available for some nationalities, but as of 2026, Vietnam is not included, so plan for a consular appointment.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a visa before travel
You need a visa to enter Brazil. Apply online through the Brazilian eVisa portal at gov.br/mre. Processing takes 5–10 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport must have at least two blank pages for entry stamps. Brazil enforces the 6-month validity rule strictly — airlines check this at check-in. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before booking.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Brazil
Immigration officers at Brazilian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready. Without one, you may be denied boarding or entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Brazil. Immigration may ask where you're staying — having a printed booking avoids delays. Hostels and Airbnb confirmations work too.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support your stay
Brazilian law requires visitors to prove sufficient funds — roughly R$150 per day. A bank statement or credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies the officer. Keep a recent statement handy.Recommended
Visa rules changed in 2026
Brazil reinstated visa requirements for Vietnam passport holders in 2026. Previously, you could enter visa-free. Now you must apply for a visa before travel. Don't rely on old information — check the Brazilian embassy website for the latest.
Overstay fine is real
Brazil enforces overstay fines strictly. If you overstay even by one day, you'll be charged R$8.37 per day at immigration when you leave. Pay it before your flight — you can do this at any Federal Police office or at the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your visa
Go to the Brazilian embassy website (gov.br/mre) and fill out the online visa application form. Pay the fee (R$80 for single entry, about USD 16). Then submit your passport and supporting documents at the embassy in Hanoi or the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. You can also mail them if you're outside these cities. Wait 5–10 business days for processing.
2
Book your flight and accommodation
Once your visa is approved, book a round-trip flight and your first night's accommodation. Keep digital copies of your visa approval letter, flight itinerary, and hotel booking on your phone.
3
Prepare for immigration at the airport
At São Paulo–Guarulhos (GRU), Rio de Janeiro–Galeão (GIG), or Brasília (BSB), join the 'Foreigners' queue. Have your passport, visa approval letter, return ticket, and proof of accommodation ready. The officer may ask about your plans and funds. Answer clearly and briefly. The process usually takes 5–15 minutes.
4
Enter Brazil and enjoy your stay
Once stamped, you're in. Your visa allows up to 90 days. If you want to stay longer, you must apply for an extension at the Federal Police (Polícia Federal) before your visa expires. Overstaying costs R$8.37 per day (about USD 1.67), capped at R$837.
