Vietnamese passport holders must obtain a visa before traveling to the Czech Republic for any purpose, including tourism. Applications are submitted in person at the Czech embassy in Hanoi or the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. As of 2026, there is no visa-on-arrival or e-visa option for Vietnamese citizens.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Long-stay visa application
Apply at the Czech embassy or consulate
You need a long-stay visa (vízum k pobytu nad 90 dnů) before traveling. Submit your application at the Czech embassy or consulate in your home country — you cannot apply at the border. Processing takes 30–60 days, so apply well ahead of your planned departure.Visa info & applicationRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for your entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in the Czech Republic. Schengen rules do not require 6 months beyond departure, but your airline may enforce it — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Prague Airport will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone before your visa expires. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or rental contract
Bring a confirmed hotel reservation or rental contract covering your entire stay. Officers at the border rarely check this for visa holders, but the embassy will require it during the visa application.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statements or cash
Show you have at least 1,500 CZK (approx. 60 EUR) per day of your stay. Bank statements from the last 3 months or a sponsor letter work. Immigration rarely checks this at the border, but the embassy will ask for it.Recommended
No visa-on-arrival or e-visa
There is no way to get a Czech visa at the airport or online. You must apply in person at the embassy or VFS center in Vietnam before you travel. Arriving without a visa means you'll be denied entry and sent back on the next flight.
Schengen area rules apply
The Czech Republic is part of the Schengen zone. Your visa allows you to visit all Schengen countries, but your main destination must be the Czech Republic. If you're caught spending more time in another country, future visa applications may be affected.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents listed above. Make photocopies of everything — the embassy keeps your originals and returns copies.
2
Book an appointment
Go to the VFS Global website for Czech Republic in Vietnam. Choose your city (Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City) and pick a date. Slots fill up fast — book at least 2 weeks ahead.
3
Submit your application in person
Show up at the VFS center on your appointment day with all documents and the visa fee. You'll be fingerprinted (biometrics) and your application will be checked for completeness.
4
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days. It can extend to 30–45 days if more checks are needed. You'll get a tracking number to check status online.
5
Collect your passport
Once approved, your passport with the visa sticker will be ready at the VFS center. You can pick it up in person or pay for courier delivery.
6
Arrive in the Czech Republic
At Prague Airport (PRG) or any Schengen entry point, present your passport with the visa. The border officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly and calmly.
